I never thought I’d utter the words; “Yeah, I’m going to see Roky Erickson tonight…” but I just did – and I am. The man himself will perform songs from his 13th Floor Elevators catalogue tonight at Voxhall. Look – I know it’s SPOT festival this weekend and most people in town that like music are going to see a million bands all over the city – but tonight’s show in Voxhall is probably a once in a lifetime experience to witness. If you want to hear underground music – you’re not going to want to miss this. The 13th floor Elevators are of course probably ground zero for the American psychedelic music movement of the 1960s. “The Psychedelic Sounds Of…” (1966) just might be one of the most important records of the decade – and paved the way for a million garage and psych bands to form over the years. If you’re a fan of the genre – again, this is an essential gig. Who will Erickson bring as a touring band?
